A man is defined by his actions
But how long do those definitions last
A month, a year
10 years, a lifetime
Does every decision, mistake, and good
Last forever with us
Do they become some irreversible suit
That we can never take off
If that's the case
I'm got one hell
Of a multiple personality disorder
I'm a boyfriend, a lover
I'm a fiancé
I'm a husband
I'm a soldier, a fighter
I'm a bully
I'm a pussy
Well that's cause you are
What you eat asshole
Did I mention I'm a smartass
I'm a breaker of hearts
A relief from tears
A shoulder to cry on
A rage to run from
Should I keep going mother fuckers
Oh wait, that's me again
Not my mother psychos
Damn I miss being a father
I'm a raiser of children
A destroyer of hope
I'm an out of control drunk
I'm a calm…..
Come to think of it
I've never been calm
We'll save that for a new year's resolution
That I won't make
Because it will never keep
I'm a self conscious skinny kid with a Mexican afro
I'm a cocky bald fat guy
Figure that one out
I'm a child
I'm the man
If only I could remember what order that came to me
I'm a shy scared new kid
I'm one of the most well known people on campus
I'm part of a loving family
I don't even know my real family
I'm the senior wearing clothes
From when he was a freshman
I'm in designer clothes
That just came out this week
The kid you went to school with
Is NOT the man you see today
The mistakes of my past do not define me
Because I have learned from them
The deeds I did in the past
Both the good and the bad
Are just that
In the past
Don't judge me by what you remember
From all those years ago
Don't think you know me
Because you've heard of my exploits
People change
Actions fade to memory then nothingness
Greatness is fleeting
It must be constantly worked towards to keep
So why can we hold longer to the failures
Why can't they not be so easily erased from the minds
Of all those close to us
And those who just happened to be there
Like math problems from a chalkboard
Solve that simple equation
Fault memory is greater than success memory
That is pointless
Super computers would spout out “does not compute”
Over and over and OVER again!!!
The light from bringing people up
Has a far greater warmth
Than the coldness of drowning people
In the ocean of their shortcomings
So break out the sunglasses people
It's long overdue for the brightness
That resides within us all
To blind the contempt
That keeps us at each other's throats
