A few weeks back, all my little Xbox 360 friends were playing "Borderlands" available for the 360 and PS3. Since I like to be included, i decided to pick it up to play along.
The game is more or less a first person shooter with some elements of an RPG.... The more bad guys and tasks you preform, the higher level your character obtains. This allows you equip some extra little skills for example maybe you can fire a gun faster or you can electrocute a dude when you punch him.
There are lots of little side missions... kill 50 giant space bugs, find 15 journal entries etc.
For the most part this game is fun, the graphics are cool in a comic almost cel shaded sort of way. There are currently 2 downloadable game add-ons which both unique.

For the most part this game is fun, the graphics are cool in a comic almost cel shaded sort of way. There are currently 2 downloadable game add-ons which both unique:
1.) “The Zombie Island of Dr.Ned,” lets Borderlands adds it's spin to a zombie survival horror.
2.) “Madd Moxi's Underdome,” enter a coliseum that would give Caesar a boner and survive waves upon waves of bad guys. I should add this mission takes a minimum of 1 to 2 hours to complete giving it a ton of playability for about 12 bucks.
The whole game reminds me of a Mad Max flick, but aside from that I can honestly say after spending about 16 hours of playing this game, I still have about no idea what is going on.
According to wikipedia the story line is this:
“Borderlands begins approximately 200 years after the discovery of the Vault; seeking the Vault, several fortune seekers, including the player, are drawn to Pandora. After arriving at the town of Fyrestone, the player sees an image of a mysterious woman, the "Guardian Angel", aware they are here to seek the Vault, and directs them to follow her instructions. The Angel eventually leads them to collecting one of the several artifacts needed to open the vault, causing Patricia Tannis, an archaeologist/scientist, to contact the player and urging them to collect the other two Vault keys, at the same time revealing that the Vault opens every 200 years, and the time of the next opening is approaching. At the same time, Commandant Steele of the Crimson Lance, a well-outfitted mercenary force in the employ of one of the game's several mega-corporations, threatens to declare martial law over the planet and demands the vault keys.”
Whatever. All I know is if you like wondering around a desert and shooting bandits and dog monsters, this game is a pretty good way to spend a weekend.
Sweet, thanks for the review! I've always been drawn to post-nuclear war games. Fallout for example, one of my all-time favorites. I'll have to check this out. I really like how they did the graphics, too.
